ISEDER Is Making What They Can Out Of What They Have
September 15, 2023
ISEDER unveiled their second collection on Tuesday, drawing a crowd of over 600 devoted followers from New York and garnering applause from onlookers on nearby apartment balconies. The show perfectly struck a balance between individualism and community, resonating with an audience that prides itself on hyper-individualism. The atmosphere at the event was really special, as it felt like the designers had successfully returned to the core values longed for in the industry: humility, camaraderie, and mutual support. Accompanied by the live performance of a rock band, set against the backdrop of a sun descending over the Brooklyn waterfront, the experience resembled more of a gathering than a traditional NYFW presentation.

Their collection breathes fresh life into the Americana motif, which has seen a surge in popularity on the runway in recent seasons. Instead of adhering to the typical middle-American-vintage-red-white-and-blue aesthetic, designers Taylor-Paige Garvin and Sharon Mishiev artfully experiment with diverse materials to craft distinctive looks that reflect on the contemporary American lifestyle.
The garments bore a deliberate roughness at the edges, featuring raw hems, sleeveless tops, and loose-fitting denim, contrasting elegantly with beautiful bubble skirts and fur lapels. Cozy sophistication was another recurring theme throughout the collection, with furs, flannels, and jersey knits accessorized by generously sized clutches made from the same materials, evoking memories of teenage slumber parties. These relaxed textiles played a significant role in accentuating each elegant silhouette. The show concluded with the band passionately playing their guitars, while one model fittingly smoked a cigarette during the finale.
