Sex & Politics in Paris
June 28, 2022
Joey Gollish, Creative Director of the Toronto based brand Mr. Saturday made their Paris Fashion week debut this past weekend, paying tribute to the first cabarets and their importance to queer communities of the 19th and 20th centuries. “Sex and Politics: Shadowplay at Le Chat Noir” opened with high slits and high heels, and climaxed with a tits-out look beneath a leather harness and a pannier-style gown.
The collection boasted androgyny and fluidity, and while many looks had explicit sex appeal, Gollish used leather and skin without falling into fetish-territory. Organza tops and sheer knits gave the runway an illusory air, and played on the French trompe l’oeil technique that uses perspective to insinuate dimensionality.

Gollish accepted applause at the close of the 38-look show wearing a ‘FREE GUNNA’ t-shirt – the artist wore a double-breasted Mr. Saturday suit for his Saturday Night Live debut just before his incarceration in May.
